I-SPY was a ground breaking addition to the NBC prime time line
up for three consecutive seasons, in 1965, 67, and 68, achieving
milestones in television history. For example, it was the first
network television series to co-star a Black actor, the celebrated
Bill Cosby, who won his first three Emmy Awards for his role
on the series. The series was also the recipient of numerous
Golden Globe awards and "I-SPY" was and remains, the
first television series shot on location in various international
locations. Together, both Bill
Cosby and Robert Culp posed as a Tennis pro and his coach,
respectively, involving themselves in plots usually concerning
international Espionage. The guest star list is impressive,
including Carroll O'Connor, James Caan, Ron Howard, Cicely
Tyson, Don Rickles, Eartha Kitt, Ricardo Montalban, Gregg
Morris and Leslie Uggams-- to name a few.
I-SPY has been memorialized in
countless television and film projects including the renowned
"Kennedy Center Honors" and the series is now part
of the permanent exhibit at the National Spy Museum, in Washington
DC. The show was celebrated in 1996 as a special MOW and is
also now a feature motion picture released by SONY, starring
Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson. Interestingly, critics have
been nearly unanimous in declaring the original TV series
as superior to the film! 82 X 1 hour episodes in color.
